Estate of Frank Townsend v. R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.

Recoveery secured a $90.8 million verdict for the estate of Frank Townsend, a lifelong smoker who died from lung cancer. The jury found R.J. Reynolds 51% responsible for his death, awarding $10.8 million in compensatory damages and $80 million in punitive damages. After post-trial adjustments, the final judgment totaled $46.3 million. This case was part of Florida’s Engle progeny litigation, holding tobacco companies accountable for decades of deception and harm.

Aguallo, et al. v. Kemper Corp., et al.

Recoveery secured a $17.6 million settlement for consumers affected by two data breaches at Kemper Corp. and its subsidiary, Infinity Insurance Co. The breaches, occurring in December 2020 and March 2021, exposed sensitive information, including Social Security numbers and medical leave details, of approximately 6.1 million individuals. Our legal team held the insurer accountable for its inadequate data security measures, ensuring affected customers received compensation and 18 months of credit monitoring services.
